Easter Dog Treats: Bunny-Shaped Cookies

Easter is right around the corner and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the spring holiday with our dogs than by making them special Easter dog treats. (Okay, and munching some chocolate ourselves while they eat their treat will make the holiday even better.)

You can buy bunny-shaped cookie cutters or carrot-shaped cookie cutters to make these Easter dog treats even more adorable or, you can use a circular shape (like a tuna can) as a makeshift cookie cutter to create the bunny shapes.

Ingredients:

2 Cups of whole wheat flour plus 2 tablespoons for rolling out cookies

½ Cup of Peanut Butter (make sure it doesn’t contain xylitol)

1 Teaspoon baking powder

1 Egg

½ Teaspoon honey

2 Tablespoons water as needed

10 Bac’n’Cheez Old Mother Hubbard oven-baked dog biscuits

Directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Line a large cookie sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking or spray the baking pan with a nonstick cooking spray.

3. Combine the flour and baking powder in a small bowl. Then add the egg.

4. In a large bowl, combine peanut butter, water and honey. Add the small bowl’s contents to the large bowl. Add water if needed to help with mixing.

5. Roll out the dough using a rolling pin on a surface that’s been sprinkled with the extra flour. Use the Easter bunny or carrot cookie cutters if you have them. If you are using the can as a cookie cutter, make two circle cut-outs for each “bunny.” Slice one of the circles in half and then add the two halves to the top of the first circle for a “bunny” face with ears. Feel free to manipulate the ears a bit if you want them to have bends or different shapes.

6. Add ½ of a Bac’n’Cheez biscuit to each ear tip and press down into the dough.

7. Space the cookies about two inches apart. You may need two baking sheets.

8. Bake for about 20 minutes.

9. Let the cookies cool on a wire rack for 5 to 7 minutes.

10. Give an Easter dog treat your dog who’s been waiting patiently this whole time!

Store the cookies in the fridge for a week or put them in a container in the freezer.
